The next 14 months are packed for US sports fans. Bar chart of how many major US sporting events fall in each season from October 2026 to December 2027

Number of events from the table above in each part of the calendar. Spring 2027 is the busiest stretch, with March Madness, the Masters, the Kentucky Derby and the Indy 500 all inside 11 weeks.

October to December 2026

The fall of 2026 opens with baseball’s biggest stage and runs straight into college football’s playoff. Here is what is left on the calendar this year.

World Series: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Milwaukee Brewers (October 23–31)

The 2026 World Series is the Tampa Bay Rays against the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee has home-field advantage, so Games 1 and 2 are at American Family Field on October 23 and 24. The series moves to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg for Games 3, 4 and 5 on October 26, 27 and 28, then returns to Milwaukee for Games 6 and 7 on October 30 and 31 if needed. Every game starts at 8pm Eastern on FOX.

Formula 1 United States Grand Prix (October 23–25)

Circuit of the Americas in Austin hosts the US Grand Prix this weekend, with the race on Sunday, October 25. COTA is the only purpose-built F1 track in the country and the weekend doubles as a music festival, with three nights of concerts.

Breeders’ Cup World Championships (October 30–31)

Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky hosts horse racing’s year-end championships over two days. The Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday is usually the richest race of the North American season.

TCS New York City Marathon (November 1)

The world’s largest marathon runs through all five boroughs on the first Sunday in November and finishes in Central Park. You don’t need a ticket to watch. First Avenue in Manhattan and Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn are the classic spectator spots.

Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix (November 21)

The Las Vegas race moves to a Saturday night again, with cars running down the Strip past the Bellagio fountains and the Sphere. Hotel prices on the Strip jump sharply that week, so book early if you are going.

NFL Thanksgiving games (November 26)

Thanksgiving football is a tradition in Detroit and Dallas. The Lions host the early game at Ford Field and the Cowboys host the afternoon game at AT&T Stadium, with a third game in prime time. The matchups are set by the NFL schedule each spring.

NBA Cup Championship (December 11)

The final of the NBA’s in-season tournament moves to a new kind of venue this year: Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the historic college gym on Butler University’s campus where the final scene of Hoosiers was filmed.

Army–Navy Game (December 12)

The 127th meeting between the service academies is at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The pregame march-on by the cadets and midshipmen is worth arriving early for.

College Football Playoff first round and quarterfinals (December 18 to January 1)

The 12-team playoff starts with first-round games at the higher seeds’ home stadiums on December 18 and 19. The quarterfinals are played as New Year’s Six bowls: the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on December 30, and the Cotton Bowl (Arlington, Texas), Peach Bowl (Atlanta) and Rose Bowl (Pasadena, California) on January 1.

NHL Winter Classic (December 31)

Hockey’s outdoor showcase goes to Salt Lake City for the first time, with the Colorado Avalanche visiting the Utah Mammoth at Rice–Eccles Stadium, the University of Utah’s football stadium, on New Year’s Eve.

College Football Playoff National Championship (January 25)

The title game is on Monday, January 25, 2027 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home of the Raiders. It is a later date than usual, about ten days after the semifinals.

Super Bowl LXI (February 14)

Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2027, Valentine’s Day, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. It is the second Super Bowl at SoFi, after the Rams won Super Bowl LVI there in February 2022. The game will be shown on ABC and ESPN. Expect Super Bowl week events across Los Angeles in the days before the game.

NBA All-Star Game (February 21)

Phoenix hosts NBA All-Star Weekend, with the game on Sunday, February 21 at the Suns’ arena, now called Mortgage Matchup Center. The Saturday night skills contests and dunk contest are often the harder ticket to get.

Daytona 500 (February 21)

NASCAR’s biggest race opens the 2027 Cup Series season at Daytona International Speedway on the same Sunday as the NBA All-Star Game. The Clash, NASCAR’s preseason exhibition, is at Daytona a week earlier, on February 13.

March to May 2027

This is the busiest stretch of the calendar. Between mid-March and the end of May there are 12 major events, including both Final Fours, the Masters, the Kentucky Derby and the Indianapolis 500.

March Madness (March 14 to April 5)

The 2027 NCAA men’s tournament is the first with 76 teams, up from 68. Selection Sunday is March 14, the expanded opening round is March 16 and 17, and the men’s Final Four is at Ford Field in Detroit, with the semifinals on Saturday, April 3 and the national championship on Monday, April 5. The women’s Final Four is at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on April 2 and 4.

The Masters (April 8–11)

Augusta National in Georgia hosts the first men’s golf major of the year. Tournament badges are sold through a lottery that opens on the Masters website the summer before, and resale prices for the weekend rounds routinely run into the thousands.

Boston Marathon (April 19)

The 131st Boston Marathon is on Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 19, 2027. The course runs from Hopkinton to the finish on Boylston Street. Like New York, it is free to watch from the sidewalk.

NFL Draft (April 29 to May 1)

The 2027 NFL Draft is in Washington, DC, with the draft stage on the National Mall in front of the Capitol and a free fan area, the NFL Draft Experience, along Pennsylvania Avenue between 3rd and 7th Streets. Recent drafts have drawn hundreds of thousands of fans over three days.

Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix (April 30 to May 2)

The Miami race runs on the Miami International Autodrome, a temporary circuit around Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. It is the first of three US races on the 2027 F1 calendar.

Kentucky Derby (May 1)

The first leg of the Triple Crown is on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville. General admission infield tickets are the cheapest way in. Reserved seats sell out months ahead.

PGA Championship (May 20–23)

The second men’s major of 2027 is at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas. The PGA of America moved its headquarters there, and the course is set to host several future championships.

Preakness Stakes (May 23)

The Preakness has a new date in 2027. The Maryland Jockey Club moved the 152nd running to Sunday, May 23 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, eight days after its traditional third-Saturday slot. That gives Kentucky Derby runners more time to recover before the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 (May 30)

Memorial Day weekend Sunday is the biggest day in American motorsport. The Indianapolis 500 runs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the afternoon, and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600, its longest race, follows at Charlotte Motor Speedway that evening. NASCAR’s All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro is the weekend before, on May 23.

Fund the trip with what you don’t use

A weekend at the Derby, the Masters or the Indy 500 isn’t cheap. The treadmill in the spare room, the old TV or the signed ball sitting in a drawer could cover a chunk of it. Post it on List It Global in a couple of minutes and talk to buyers directly.

Pebble Beach Golf Links on California’s Monterey Peninsula hosts the U.S. Open for the seventh time. The final round is on Father’s Day, June 20.

How to buy tickets without getting scammed

Ticket fraud spikes around every big event, and most of it happens through social media posts and private messages. These steps will keep you safe.

  1. Start with the official seller

Check the event’s own website first. Most leagues and venues sell through one official partner, and many now run their own resale exchange where tickets are verified and reissued in your name.

  2. Use resale sites with a buyer guarantee

If you buy secondhand, use a marketplace that refunds you if the tickets don’t work. Compare the full price at checkout, because fees can add 20% or more.

  3. Insist on an official mobile transfer

Almost all major events now use mobile tickets. A real seller can send them to you through the official ticketing app. A screenshot or a PDF is not a ticket and can be sold to many people at once.

  4. Never pay by wire, Zelle, crypto or gift card

These payments can’t be reversed. Use a credit card or a payment method with purchase protection. Read our guide to safe payment methods for private sales.

  5. Watch for prices that are too good

A Super Bowl or Final Four ticket for a fraction of what every other seller is asking is almost always a scam. So is a seller who says they can only talk over text.

Don’t buy tickets through social media comments

Fake “I can’t go anymore, selling my tickets” posts are one of the most common scams before big games. If someone sends you a private message offering tickets, stop and check the warning signs in our guide to spotting fake buyers and sellers.

Tip: free events count too

The New York, Boston and Chicago marathons, the NFL Draft fan area and the F1 fan zones around Las Vegas cost nothing to watch. If you can’t get tickets to the big game, these are some of the best atmospheres of the year.
